Jake being deep? Look he has had a lot of time in the woods to just be by himself with his own thoughts and the animals around him. There was a lot of self reflection and introspection.
"I guess in some ways this place isn't so bad...if you don't count the being hunted and killed from time to time. It's quiet at least...and you don't have to worry about bills or money...or family expectations."
